WhatsApp chatbot pricing: what you actually pay for

WhatsApp chatbot pricing is always published somewhere. What you will actually pay at the end of the month, much less so.

The problem is not dishonesty. It is that billing models measure different things, and get compared as if they were equivalent.

The three ways you get billed

A flat subscription. A monthly amount, usually with a message cap. Easy to understand. The trap: you pay the same in a quiet month as in a campaign month. And if you cross the cap, the service stops — usually at the worst possible moment.

Per conversation. This is the official API's model. It depends on your customer's country and the type of exchange. Predictable for an accountant, much less so for a seller whose traffic comes in waves.

Per actual usage. You pay for what the AI genuinely did. A short answer costs little, a long one costs more.

The question nobody asks

"How many messages per month?" is the wrong question.

The right one is: what is actually being consumed?

Because a bot answering a question does not just write a sentence. Before every reply it re-reads your business information — your products, your prices, your terms. If that text is three lines, it re-reads three lines. If it is four pages, it re-reads four pages. Every single message.

That is why two sellers with the same number of customers can get very different bills. The message count does not decide it. The length of what you gave it to read does.

Three questions to ask before signing

Whatever offer you are looking at, ask these:

  1. What happens when I go over? Does the service stop, or does it keep running and bill me? Either is acceptable; not knowing is not.
  2. Can I see my usage day by day? An end-of-month invoice with no breakdown is not information, it is a surprise.
  3. What exactly am I paying for? A message count, or the work actually done?

How WA ChatBox presents it

The account runs on credits. One credit matches a defined share of real AI usage — not a message, because a message does not always cost the same.

What you see inside the app:

  • Your remaining credits, with a progress bar. No waiting for month end.
  • Daily usage: number of replies, credits spent, matching cost.
  • A free trial, so you can measure on your own business before paying anything.

And one piece of advice that runs against our own interest: keep your business text short. The essentials, not the exhaustive version. Half the length means close to half the bill, and often better answers — because the important information is not buried.

What else to know

The app runs on Android, with a phone switched on and connected. It has no connection to WhatsApp or Meta.

And it answers people who write to you; it does not prospect.

Measure before you decide

The only honest comparison uses your own numbers. Run the trial through a normal week, look at the real usage, then compare with flat-rate offers.

If the flat rate is cheaper for you, take the flat rate. What matters is knowing beforehand rather than afterwards.
